This glove was just OK…I like the leather palm, but it just doesn’t fit as well as other gloves that I have tried. You can feel the seams in the fingertips and the glove left blisters on my hand, and blisters are caused by movement. Make sure you get a good fitting glove. The Mechanix Wear 4.0 glove is similar to this glove but with a better fit, any of those gloves are better than this pair.

I work in the crane/construction industry. I spend every day handling heavy cables, shackles, slings, metal, lumber.. you name it. I do all of that in every weather condition imaginable. In the past five years I’ve grown to become a glove fanatic. I love the way comfortable gloves feel and I’m always trying out new pairs of gloves as the ones I have get destroyed.

About two years ago I bought a pair of these Ranchworx gloves as a bit of a splurge. I was gambling on the Ironclad line based on the decent performance of some of their synthetic gloves, even though those gloves can have stitching issues. Sometimes I’ll have a pair of the synthetic kind last 5 or 6 months, sometimes 5 or 6 weeks. I’m used to buying a new pair of gloves every two or three months on average because of that, and I accept it as the norm for the abuse I put them through. But these Ranchworx gloves have made it through every bit of the worst conditions I come across, and they’ve done it in spades. I still buy new pairs of gloves, just because I’m a maniac and love to try new gloves, but I keep coming back to these things. They’re amazing. I’ve gotten diesel on them, picked up sharp metal, and handled rusty chains on a daily basis. All I have to do is wash them off, wring ‘em out and throw them back in my car. Awesome. They’ve been wet and dry so many times now I can’t even begin to count. I’ve finally used them up and made it all the way through the leather, but man, did it take a crap load of effort. If Ironclad gloves fit you well, these gloves will impress you.

I used one pair of these for 5 months of trail building, including timber and rock work. Plenty of mud as well. I really liked the Kevlar reinforcements, but the seams on the roll-top fingers failed after 4 months. Duct tape solved most of the problem.

Having worn them now for a couple hundred miles on towpaths and singletrack, these gloves compare favorably to those I’ve bought in bike shops and seem much sturdier. Naturally, they are made for work, not play. Seams are strong and do not chafe over 10′s of miles. The velcro closure is sturdy and easily undone for stretch and nutrition/hydration breaks. The leather palm provides some cushion although not really padded like gel, but this is not what one wants on a mountain (get paddles!) nor cyclocross bike. The price was comparable, too, so overall I rate these superior to those commonly offered in bike shops.

I truly love these gloves, they are very well made leather in the work areas, areas which usually go first are reinforced. Knuckles protected with flexible rubber. The breathable and absorbent material on the upper part of hand. They are tough but not too heavy, and very durable, the only glove that has lasted as long in many jobs. And they look good.
